First of all, a big shout out goes to the officers who ran a smooth tournament on Sunday and the to everyone who fished!

I had a pretty simple plan on how I was going to fish this event, and that was to fish a lot of different baits until I find out what they liked and to cover a lot of water. I threw tubes, blades, jigs, a swimbait, top water baits, crankbaits, senkos, and dropshot.

When Mitch gave the "Go Fish", I made my way over to a point that I fished last year. As soon as I got there fish were showing up on the graph right away. After about an hour I got my first fish, which was a pretty decent fish. About 20 minutes after that, I caught another one that was a little smaller, and another one shortly after that. All 3 were caught in 7.5 to 8.5 feet of water. After the 3rd fish, the graph was blank.

I stayed in the area kicking around until I found another group fish. I managed to find another group of fish in about 4 feet of water. I couldn't get bit at all though. So I tried deeper water (9-12 feet) and found another group of fish on the graph and couldn't get bit. By then, I started to lose confidence in this area. I had to convince my self to stick with plan and cover more water.

I decided to row to the other side of the lake. I stopped at another point where there was some vegetation sticking out of the water. I saw fish on the graph in about 10-12 feet of water, but I could not get them to bite. I tried closer to the vegetation in 4-5 feet water and there was nothing.

It's been hours now without a bite and I have no idea where to go. There were people at the first point I tried and there were people at Damn. Not feeling confident about it, I kicked back near the launch area. I let the wind drift me into the cove to the right of the launch site and fish started to show on the graph anywhere from 5-10 feet. I worked the area and got hooked up for fish #4 in 8 feet of water. It wasn't a giant, but I was one fish away from getting my limit and it was confidence booster. I went back to the same area and a few minutes later, I got fish #5. I continued to work the same area were I was able to catch 2 more and they were good enough to cull.

With about 2 hours left, the bite had turned off, so I decided to kick to the other side of the cove. Fish began showing on the graph in 7-10 feet of water, but couldn't get bit.

With about 35 minutes left to fish, I went back to the other side where I culled a few fish. I went over a spot where 2 fish showed on graph. I made a small cast, and once it hit the bottom the line went heavy. I set the hook and landed my kicker fish which was just over 6lbs!

All my fish were caught on dropshot, and they were all caught in 7.5 to 8.5 feet of water.

I had a great time fishing with all of you! See yall at Clearlake next month!

Robert
