Just thought I would share my report and how I caught them on Sunday. Congrats to all the placers especially to Robert with that 6lb giant.
I started out the morning trying to fish deep targeting rocks, ledges and drop offs in the 8-14 foot range but couldnt find any fish out there. My first clue to go shallow was when a fish surfaced right on the bank at about 9:30. I caught my first fish around 10 o'clock on the drop shot in 3.5ft that weighed about 1.5lbs. He was hanging out on the edge of the vegetation. I caught my second keeper around 10:30 that was probably about a pound in the same spot. After that i caught a few more short fish and decided to move since i wasnt finding any quality fish. I caught my 3rd keeper around 11-11:30 on a fence post in 3ft of water that went a little over 3lbs on the drop shot as well. I kept moving and covering water but i wasnt finding fish and i really didnt like the cover that i was targeting. Had to move again. I moved into the cove with the main creek channel and that is where i found them. I had the entire cove to myself the rest of the day. Water was 67-69 degrees and it was a lot rockier than the main lake was. Picked up my fourth keeper at 12:30 on a delta craw speed trap on a rocky point in 4ft of water. It probably weighed 2.75lbs. I quickly caught my fifth fish after that on the same speed trap. It was a healthy 3lber and I found him in 5ft of water on a rocky shoreline. Was able to cull out the 1lber around 1:15 with one that was probably a little over 2lbs on the same speed trap. I caught a lot of fish in in the same cove after that but nothing that would beat the ones I already had. I left the cove at 1:45 because i was paranoid about making it back in time with the wind, after i got out of the cove I realized i had plenty of time, tied on a 6in swimbait and decided to try and find a kicker at the same spot i caught my first two. I was able to cull out the 1.5lber for a 3lber at 2:15 or 2:30 on the swimbait before I headed in.
Overall, it was tough to find a good bite but once i did, it was on and I had that entire cove to myself not seeing another boat until I left the spot. I believe i caught 12 total all day, most being small. Again, congrats to the placers and thanks for another great tournament. See you all at Clearlake, it will be a lot of fun
