Good questions all. There's plenty of ways to rig a stinger hook, and many will work.

I got the tip to use wire from SWMB8R. Wire is much easier for me to rig, and like you said, getting the spacing right with braid is a pain. The wire I've been using is 40lb... but I should be using 60. There's an outside chance you could break 40. The best thing about the wire is that it doesn't fray or get torn up at all. Whatever you do, don't use mono.

Hook size - I dunno, I just like a bigger hook any time I can get away with it. I also like the hooks pretty close together, so if I get one hook in, I might get the other hook in too. Getting both hooks in puts your odds up in that 90% plus range. Maybe if I got a lot of follows and no bites, I'd go to a smaller trailer. The cool thing about those trailer setups is you can take them on and off by just undoing the front hook from the split ring. I keep a few spares in my box and switch them between baits as needed.

Nico and I have a saying and it is, "Trailer hooks are good." It's a stupid and simple saying, but it's true and we say it often after landing a fish on a trailer hook :)
