I just dig them up by hand. Yes, dime-sized softshells work the best too. I dont worry much about how they are hooked, but I use a very small size 8 hook so it is mostly hidden. Carolina rigged works well...you can even use them on a hi/lo as well. They make great bait for corbina, perch, and all inshore species!
