I use the following rig for my grub fishing. 6lbs P-Line CXX mainline ->1/2oz sliding egg sinker->small bead->small ball bearing swivel->about 20" of 6lbs flourocarbon leader->size 8 Owner mosquito hook.

I like the 1/2 oz for the extra distance (if needed) and to keep the rig on the bottom when there is surf. A quality swivel is important to keep the leader from tangling up on your swivel. Some people like to use long leaders in the surf but I find it difficult to manage. I get too many knots and twists all over the place. Around 20" seems to work the best for me. I've caught fish on leaders that are 7" long. Good luck!
