Hello You all. My name is diverDel and this is my first post on this message board. A couple of weeks ago I traded my brother Aztecwin a digital camera for a Fenwich HMX Steelhead rod and for Christmas he gave me a Shimano Stradic 4000 reel. New Years day morning we went down to the coast to give it a go. For me, this was my maiden voyage to the surf with light gear and artificial baits. I loved the feel of it, the light weight, the sensitivity, and the freedom to roam.
Aztecwin warned me about sink holes in the surf which I took with a grain of salt. I didn't think such things existed in ankle deep water as we were casting from. So without thinking a thought about them I cruised the beach casting with abandon. Suddenly I stepped forward and there was no beach under my foot. I fell forward and went totally under. There I was on all four clutching my rod, trying not to damage it and at the same time stand up. I had on a heavy outdoor style shirt and it must have absorbed a least 25 pounds of water. As I stood up the weight of the shirt and the swirling surf toppled me over again. Finally I crawled to shallow sand and got up, thoroughly soaked and chilled. Aztecwin and I both had a good laugh and decided to call it a day, go home and watch the Rose Bowl.
On the way out to the truck, we met Amish Ed and had a good chat. All in all it was a good day none-the-less. If you should go to Buccaneer Beach, step lightly. Is my name related to my innaugaral experience, yes it is.
