Late report from yesterday - I hooked up with Jamon, his buddy Matt, and Jamon's dad John for a run up the coast for some more saltwater action. John has this really cool Shamrock boat, 22' I believe. We went up to naples cruising at 23knts.
We got a late start and didn't up there until probably 10:30am. There were 6 other boats on the reef lol. We anchored, made bait and fished. It was pretty slow... We wound up getting 5 calicos and 2 short ling cod. The bass were nice quality but no big ones, they were all like 2.5 to 3.5lbs. The Grey Light was anchored next to us and they caught a few bass also but that was the only action we saw.
Jamon and Matt jumped in with their spears to take a look around after a few hours. They saw calicos, a few barracuda and misc stuff. I told Jamon if he saw any small to medium sized sheepshead to shoot one for me for dinner, and sure enough he got one :)
After a while we pulled anchor and went in by the beach for some drifts. Jamon caught a 24" halibut in shallow. We had a few raked baits but it was fairly slow. I demonstrated my amazing fishing skills by catching a big guitarfish on the last cast of the day (actually I was just reeling in Jamon's pole and there happened to be a fish on it).
So fishing was only fair, but the weather was great and we had a good time out there just hanging out.
