#14359, "Pre-Fathers Day PV Prefish W/ Pics"

Towed the boat down to Long Beach on Saturday for my first look at PV for round 4 of the SWBA series. Brought along my dad and one of his long time friends Roger.

My pops is really starting to get the hang of tossing the plastic, but Roger is a solid bait soaker. In fact when we confirmed with Roger on Friday, he asked if we would throw him off the boat if he brought along some frozen squid. You can guess my response. Needless to say, he decided to leave the squid at home and stay dry.

We launched out of South Shores at about 5 and made the run in super flat, glassy conditions. Since I have never fished PV before I decided I would just cruise up around the point and look for some thing that looked fishy. Unfortunately or fortunately, it all looks fishy.

We got into fish right away, with a good steady pick of Calico’s. It wasn’t brain surgery or anything, just hit the kelp edges, boilers and dark spots. Before long, my dads gets slammed on the 4 inch Big Hammer ‘redrum’ and puts this nice 4.5 pound model on board.

Not to be out done, I followed up shortly there after with a 4.5 of my own. This one came out from the kelp after tossing at a lone stringer out in the middle of a big open area. Got railed so hard, I told the boys that it was either a cuda or a big bass. This one ate the 5 inch ‘Fish Chick’ Big Hammer.

Later I did another 4 pounder. Oh I also got my first ever blade fish after chucking way back into some thick kelp with a few open patches. I’ve tossed the blade 3 trips now and finally stuck a fish, it wasn’t huge but I really didn’t care.

We ended up with about 20 bass, with only 2 sand bass in the mix and about 3 various rock fish. I had about a dozen with my dad and squid boy battling for the balance. Most fish came on the 4 and 5 inch redrum and fishchick and a few on the Christmas tree. I would guess about a 17 pound 5 fish bag. Not a winner, but gave me a bit of hope, come tourney day.

Talked to Mr. EB with his pops, Mr. Reckless (at least I think that blurry streak that went by me at the speed of light was Benny) and saw Walls Out at the ramp.
