As written by BassKid254- Me and Brett (bassslayer619)got to seaforth this morning at 5 and took off on the Sea watch at 6. Only got an hour of sleep last night before it so i tried to sleep some on the couple hour ride to the islands. Very heavy fog in the morning; couldn't even see the islands from about 1/4 mile away when we got there. Started looking for schools of yellows right away and found a couple small ones but nothing but bonito. Me and Brett both hooked up to something small on the first drop but nothing stuck, most likely bonita. When we would search for schools Brett trolled a feather a few times and caught a bonita or 2. We weren't having any luck with the yellows so we decided to go for some whitefish. On the way over to the whitefish however our captain stops and says this looks really interesting on the radar and hes not sure whats going on so whoever still had a yo-yo on to drop it down. Me and brett switched back to the yo-yo's and while we did people began connecting left and right to yellows. The school moved real quick however so we landed a couple yellows and went looking for them. Found another school and began hooking up again. Brett hooked and landed his first yellow this time and right after he did i got slammed and line began peeling of my reel steadily for about 45 seconds to a minute. I had no chance of slowing this yellow down, but it decided to stop and come back at me a little so i got some line back. Made a couple more runs and then would just sit there. While it would sit id try and crank it in but i couldnt budge the thing more than a few inches. After a few minutes of this my line had had enough and frayed snapping the yellow and the iron off. I was pissed to say the least since i knew this was the largest yellow ive ever hooked into by far .I hooked up 3 good times throughout the day but never managed a yellow landed . I did manage a nice vermillion rockfish on the yo-yo near the bottom while hunting for the yellows. Brett connected twice with the yellows and landed them both for his first 2 yellows. We did stop off for some bottom fishing tho and the Whitefish were going off. Basically every drop ud get hit. boat landed 91 whitefish in id say about less than an hour. I can't recall how many i landed but it was a lot, and i caught the largest whitefish 2 . The last place we stopped at was where the jackpot yellow was caught. It was tail wrapped with a dropper loop rig and wasnt even hooked. Not to mention the guy was going for whitefish . Now thats just unfair. After a few more minutes there we headed back in for the day. I ended up taking the smaller yellow home and a vermillion, and Brett took the larger once home. Filleted them and there ready for tuesday night . I need to pick up some more Yo-Yo's for next time> we BRoke off all our yo-yo's except for a couple old beat up ones i have. Overall fun day, but that monster yellow i broke off is gonna haunt me forever.

P.S. It was pretty cool when we stopped a couple times and dumped bait over and the yellows were chasing and busting them right out infront of the boat. Me and brett chucked a couple good casts in the school and burnt it along the top watching the yellows with there backs out of the water hitting our irons. Theyd knowck em out of the water but wouldnt stick on top.

yea boyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! my biggest/second yellow of the trip. This guy was actually caught working the yo yo right on top after the fish started boiling the first time. Man I LOVE iron hookups! Especially when you fish 40 pound and drag buttoned and the fish surges and shakes its head and your not letting line slip. I also caught a little red. and the whitefish situation was just rediculous.

I was talking to a deckie when we go to the whitefish spot asking if it was worth keeping an iron on, he tells me no, so i proceed to cut off my iron and rig up a dropper loop. Right after I had gotten my second hook on the dropper loop the line the capt. tells a couple guys to drop yo-yos to check out some strange meter marks, and three yellwos get hooked up. I re rigged and got my first yellow on that stop
