#12651, "More Bonita at Goleta"

I fished this morning at Goleta with my dad. We launched our kayaks at about 7:30 and tried for some halibut around campus point. After too much effort i managed one short fish about 17" and a 6" rockfish. A large pod of dolfins swam past us so i chased them for a bit. Its always fun when you get up close and personal with the wildlife. By this time i was near the point so me and my dad went around the point to troll around in some deeper water. I was draging around a swim bait and my dad had iron. My dad managed a bonita and then soon after a decient baracuda(released). A little further out he hooked into a nice fish. I paddled over in time to see a giant school of giant baracuda. There where tons of fish cruizing around and all in the 40" range easy. I casted to the fish but they wanted non of my swim bait. My dad got his fish in and decided to have some cuda tacos tonight so we strung him up. I was fed up with the swim bait so i switched to a jointed crank that i had. We continued to troll around and it was my turn. In the next 30 minutes i hooked and landed 3 more bonita. biggest was 1.5lbs but angry buggers. After that we had to head in so i could make it to work. A fun day with some unusual catches. Hopefully the schools will still be around next time i get a chance to get out there.

Dan
