#9045, "Irvine"

Friends flaked on me, so I decided to fish Irvine by myself. Recent reports said that trolling was the ticket. Got my rental boat and started to troll around 6:30, using Rapala fire tiger and gold black, not even a nibble for 2 hours. I decided to rest a little so I put on an inflated night crawler W/garlic oil, as soon as I picked my other pole, wham on the crawler, I wasn't quick enough and lost it. This happened 3 times during the next 15 minutes. Finally I had one crawler and one pb pole out and tried to rest. nothing for the next 90 minutes. decided to troll again using Thomas Buoyant: gold with red and yellow spots and Yo-Zuri Pins Minnow nothing for the next hour and half, kept passing people that told me they were catching them. I tried different speeds and distance absolutely NOTHING. Some old guy (very nice) told me to troll pb and a crawler, tried that nothing. Decided to nap, set up two bait poles again nothing. Tied on a crappie jig for the heck of it (never fished these before and wasn't sure if I was doin it right or had the right pole to use them), caught one decent size crappie after about 20 cast. Decided to end the day trolling (with almost no gas left in the rental). Again used the Rapalas, got one hit lost it, called it a day. Although I caught no trout (probably due to my poor skills) it was an outstanding day out there and it looked like others were limiting out!!! If no rain Friday I may head out there again.
