Went to Calero for the first time today. Solo mission, just me and the boat today. Right away I see some kickboaters and cruised over to find Joe Puente and Mark Serrano. Said what's up to my bass-n-tubes buddies and we chatted for a bit. I headed up the lake and went after the fish. Except for the fish weren't quite as reciprocating. I had one fish hammer my 5.5 inch fish trap but that was it for the entire morning. Found Joe and Mark again and was shooing the breeze with them. Right where we happened to meet up I am seeing fish marks on my fish finder all over, where I hadn't seen any the whole morning. Sure enough Joe hooks up a 1.5 pounder on a 4 inch worm. A minute later he sticks a 4 pounder. Hmmm, too bad the lightest line I had with me was 16lb! Doh. That was all for that spot though. After that I gave up on any reaction bite and dragged carolina rig and threw spider jigs the rest of the day. Could not buy a bite! Around 3:30 I put my swimbait back on and got hammered again but the fish missed again. Rough day on the water. Bright sunny skies, low lake, cold water and a slight breeze. Yuk yuk. Going to McClure on Saturday for the Nut Case Classic. Will report in after that.
