Nico and I hit up Pablo today in my boat. We got there around 10am and fished pretty hard until 6:30pm. There was a little front that passed through last night and it was still hanging around this morning when we got there. We were both feeling good about the weather conditions when we put the boat in. Sure enough, on Nico's 5th or 6th cast he says, "got one" and proceeds to nail a nice 4lb 14oz chunk on a big spinnerbait. Shortly thereafter I stick a smaller one on a Fat Free Shad crankbait that went 2-10. That fish was very skinny and unhealthy looking which is pretty rare at San Pablo. Not more than 5 minutes later Nico pitches his spinnerbait up on the bank and gets nailed in very shallow water. The fish made a big jump and shook off. Looked like a 3 and a half pounder or so. So it was a good start to things, but as we worked down the lake it got windier and windier as the front started to blow through and clear out. I stuck with the MS Slammer, black jig, and Fat Free Shad crank most of the day. I tried spooning a little on the outside but we didn't mark anything that looked particularly juicy. Nico threw his big spinnerbait and his Castaic trout most of the time. We basically didn't get touched or have a follow from 11 to 5, it was just plain tough.

The lack of follows really says to me that the big fish are simply not up shallow. Unfortunately they didn't seem too interested in my crankbait or jig, so I was a little stumped on what might have been a good option to get a big bite today. Towards the end of the day we explored the preserve trying to find any sort of creek channel or wood. Not much luck in that regard but Nico, being the stud that he is :-) stuck a 5lb 12oz catfish on a DD22. Those cats are prowling at Pablo lately!

At the end of the day we went back to our starting spot and I tied on a 1oz football head with a 5" Assalt Twin Tail skirted grub in the #38 color. Working out deeper in about 16 feet I popped one last fish, a 3-8 that put up a heck of a fight by the boat.

All in all a good day. We had some good conditions so you can't complain about that. The wind was bad on the main lake, but that's San Pablo, take it or leave it. Maybe this week as the moon gets fuller some bigger fish will bite. Fish Chris will find that out for us I'm sure :-)

Here's the jig fish. I blew it on Nico's fish with the camera and didn't push the shutter on his camera right so we didn't get a pick :-(. It was a very chunky pale fish.
