#53, "August 6, 1999"

Today Summer and I went up to the lake around 6pm. I was thinking of going to the swimming pool cove but as we came out of the marina I saw some schoolies chasing shad on the surface. Summer cast out with a rattle trap and caught one about 13". I missed two bites on the 5" green sardine fish trap, probably because the fish were small. So rather than go driving around we just fished the marina cove in it's entirety. Summer didn't fish much after her initial slaying but I managed to land 4 bass from about 2lb to 2lb 11oz. They were all caught on the 5" swimbait fishing outside the weeds. I missed literally 8-10 bites including some rippers but they just weren't getting hooked. It seemed like I wasn't swinging too early but the bites were mostly sharp taps and then no real big bite. Hmmm, maybe a trailer hook would help or something. Well we didn't stay too late since it was kinda cold and we were off the water at 8pm.
