#34, "July 9, 1999 Santa Margarita Lake"

Summer and I went up to the lake today around 3 or 4pm can't remeber exactly. I was hoping that the good crankbait bite of Wednesday would continue but the weather was a little different today which seemed to put them slightly off the bite. We tried white oak first and didn't have a single bite. I had Summer throwing a 1/8oz bluegill colored speed trap while I threw the 1/4oz chrome/blue one. Having no luck there we moved over to Salsipuedes bay but started on the point towards the narrows and worked up the lake. I finally got bit but it turned out to be a big ol greenear sunfish. A bit later I caught a dink and that was basically it for that area. So then we're cruising down the lake and I hear some guys yelling. I was like what the??? Well it turned out to be these two guys Dale and Elwood ( I think? ) and they said they had seen the page and read the reports. So I gave them my autograph and we kept fishing (lol). But that was cool. <BR>It was getting late so I decided to try Jackass Canyon. I threw the AC minnow and the frog for nothing as we worked back in the cove. Switching back to the speedtrap I caught a dink which was followed by a better fish. This was more like it! Next Summer had a nice bite on a skitter pop but it got away. As we moved over the area where she had the bite I saw a ball of shad (another good sign). In the next couple minutes I nailed two fish about 2lb each. They both had follower fish including one nicer fish that looked like three and a half. That was it for the night though. Nice sunset tonight with the clouds.
