#298, "May 13, 2000 Santa Margarita Lake"

Is it just me or I have I not been to Santa Margarita in forever? Well I finally got my tackle box back from the Clear Lake trip (big thanks to Albert Berends for sending it to me) so Summer and I went to the lake around 3:30 for some afternoon bass fishin. It was windy when we got there so we stayed close to the marina. I decided to break out the old 7" AC minnow and was rewarded shortly thereafter with a 2 and half that came up out of the weeds to eat it. Worked around the lower end of the lake throwing the various trout baits and had lots of follow ups from fish to maybe 4 and a half pounds but no biters. Also had a blow up on a sammy but missed the fish. Summer and I were talking about something and I said, "man I usually get one on this point". Next cast with a 5" swimbait and a little guy latched on to it. That was kinda funny. At 5 we headed over by white oak and found a more consistent bite. I put 3 swimbait fish and a 7" ms slammer fish in the boat in about 1/2 hour. Wound up finishing the day back by the marina and caught one on my last cast. What a great day at the lake, and not too crowded for a Saturday. Didn't stick around for the late evening topwater bite but I'm sure it would have been there. Back to my house for steaks!
Here's the 1st fish of the day, didn't photograph the rest, they were all around the same size.
