I have that problem with spots and stripers when I am fishing for lmb. Not neccessarily a bad thing, but not what you intended to catch. I have found with spots and smallmouth, if you go with larger baits you tend to get past them and get the lmb. With stipers, you just have to move to get away from them. They will eat anything you throw no matter how big.
