I guess the weather hasn't been that great lately, but has anyone else been having better luck out there? I've done poorly lately. At Lopez, I got skunked by the gas dock on the morning of Friday, Jan 21st. Then the next morning, on Saturday, Jan 22nd, I tried Cottonwood Cove to no avail. Some people were doing pretty good in the early morning hours there. One woman caught two 2# trout right next to me. Me, on the other hand, got one bite on a nightcrawler that led to nothing, then hooked one on a Mepps Aglia Long spinner, which threw the hook when it jumped right by the shore (I suck!). Then I moved to the gas dock area and caught two teeny little trout in the afternoon, one on a half of a nightcrawler, and one on rainbow Powerbait. I thought I'd try something else and trout fished at Cachuma for the first time this past Saturday. That's a pretty nice reservoir...nice scenery. I fished all day but caught only one in the early morning hours off the fishing pier...one bite/one fish...no other bites the whole rest of the day. I tried everywhere the marina bait shop told me to try...both sides of the marina (can't fish inside the marina border, which is marked by floating logs), both sides of the point, then by the campgrounds, and then back near the pier later on. During all three of these past trips, I've tried all ten Powerbait colors I have, and even tried nightcrawlers....I've hit a wall and now declare a slump! Oh, well, at least these trips are relaxing days away from home and work!
