#16596, "Winter Wonderland or... Small World 12/10/06"

I had went to bed last night planning on belly boating today, though I hadn’t decided if I was gonna go after largemouths or fish a marina for spotties and whatnot.

When I woke up this morning and walked outside and saw the state of the environment, with the birds rejoicing after last nights wind and rain. I changed my mind. I knew I wanted to hang out with nature today and I wanted to avoid mankind, so I went hiking.

Armed with only the barest essentials for a day in the canyons, I set off. Exercise, fishing, photography, and hiking all rolled into one. How great is that! Once I neared the creek, I went into super stealth mode. I caught a few of these.

A 1/80th ounce leadhead with a 4” Roboworm on 4lb test is a thing of beauty. It looks so tastey in the water.

The best part is, it’s easily interchanged with a 1” BPS grub for smaller fish.

It was extremely tough to get the bluegill to bite today, they would only short strike the grub. Even so, I caught my share.

I spent an unusually long amount of my time trying to catch some of the bigger fish in this creek today. Especially the bigger carp(10-15lbs). I would stand there perfectly still, silent and in hiding, holding a microlite fishing pole and soaking bread balls. 3 TIMES today a big carp ate my bait, and 3 TIMES, I missed them. I ended my day with this carp, it was my 4th attempt at carp, and I was getting tired of standing and waiting for Big Moe.

I was a little bummed that I didn’t get rained on but, at least I got to get away for a while and watch fish.
Qwerty.
