Still in pursuit of physical fitness, I hiked around San Vincente today for 6 hours. I was hoping to capture a stringer of fresh bluegill for tonights supper. After buying a permit I asked the girl there how many bluegill I could keep should I be so lucky. She said, “As many as I wanted!!†This news pleased me so very much, you see the other day at Santee lakes the bluegill bite was WFO, but you could only keep 5. Needless to say I didn’t bother keeping any.
I soon found out the bad news,…these bluegill simply were not biting. I tried and tried but only managed a few and only two good ones. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1098.jpg Spirits rise and their dance was unrehearsed… http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1103.jpg
The LMB were everywhere, and I caught 1000 of these while hunting for bluegill. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1099.jpg
I found myself way in the back of the lake with only two more hours to fish, and I needed about 30 minutes to hike out. I decided to go after bass, after all I had seen many nice in the course of my day. Unfortunatley, I didn’t bring any LMB gear. I dug out a 3†swimbait that I had in my grub box and bit it in half. I put my 6lb test Izorline reel on my $7.99 spinning rod and got to work. Almost immediately……Shooshaa!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1094.jpg I follwed that up with a 14†http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1093.jpg And a little while later,… http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v388/fishtricks/100_1101.jpg Number 3. Got lucky. We eat tonight. OI!
