#1599, "2001 NCBF Pro/Teen"

Drove up to Brentwood on Friday after stopping by Wilderness Outfitters and Long's in Paso (Dave is my new best friend...). Met John Lake and "hundid dollah" Bill at the Holiday Inn. Saturday morning we rolled up to the Hook at @ 5 and who did I draw? None other than John Lake himself. That was pretty funny. Cooch said he could re-draw if we wanted, but I said it was cool. So, following John's plan of action, we "blasted off" and put the trolling motor in the water as soon as we cleared the 5mph buoy :-). Fished the break with senkos, both 5" and 7" and after awhile John pulled a keeper on the 7" senko. I set the hook on one fish, but he buried his face in tullies and pinned my hook onto one. We fished around the Break and surrounding areas but it was pretty slow. John broke out the Delta money reapers and proceeded to catch a couple fish. I resorted to rigging up a reaper myself. Finally at like 11:30 I got a biter. Set the hook, went to flip it in the boat and the freakin hook pulled. I guess that's why you're supposed to net fish... A few minutes later I got one in the boat @ 1.5lbs. Unfortunately that's all I could get to the boat... Our 4 fish went for 8.61 lbs. which put us in the middle of the pack, at about 35th, 40th (don't know exactly, but 30th was low 9lbs) out of 76. Winning limit was 18 something I believe. 10th was 11lbs. something and 30th was 9 something, to give an idea of how close it was. I think just about all the teams had a few keeper fish. Big fish was 8 and change, caught by a pro and the biggest kid fish was 7.1. I ended up winning a Lamiglas rod in the raffle (anybody wanna buy a Lamiglas rod???) which is pretty cool. It's 6' 3/8-3/4 so I pretty much have no use for it... But, hey, I'll take it. A good time was had by all, as usual, and I'll be back next year fo sho.
