#14033, "Cachuima 8/19 - 8/22"

Headed up to Lake Cachuma on Thursday night to fish a small club tournament on Saturday. Got to the lake just before sunset and set up camp. Launched Friday morning in the fog. The lake is way down so they are down to the 3rd ramp and it is one lane only which made it tough to launch as a single. Heard of a top water bite so started throwing the chug bug and buzzbait for nothing, worked it hard for 3 hours. The wind started to really blow so I decided to try to find some sort of pattern to use if the wind came up on tourney day. Went to a exposed point with lots of stick ups and right in the wind. Started throwing a spinner bait and bam second cast a nice 2#’r moved a 100 yards down the line and tossed it again and after a few casts bam another nice 2#’r Went across the lake to another spot that had the same look and was getting hammered by the wind and first cast bam another solid keeper, realizing I’m on to something and move all the way down the lake in search of windy stick ups and after a few casts I get another. So I spend the next hour or so hauling ass around the lake looking for the structure and marking it. When I was down by the dam I decided to throw a rip bait and ended up with a nice Smallmouth. Decided to head in and rig up for the morning

Saturday
Launched and sunrise and was headed down the lake and noticed no one stopped on the most obvious point on the lake so we pull in, I throw top water and my back seater throws a blade he sticks a fish right away, I stick with the top water for nada. Move over to the “pig” shore line (it always had wild pigs on it) and my partner gets another. I’m not worried remember I’m waiting for the wind. Around 8am I nail 1 on a chug bug in the heavy brush and then another on a Senko. By about 10:30 the wind finally shows and we get a slow pick of nice spinner bait fish. I had my limit by noon and my partner finally pulled it out around 2:30 (for a 3:00 weigh in). I cant remember the exact number but my partner took 1st with 13#’s and I took 3rd with just under 12#’s I missed second to a guy that only had 3 fish by just a few ounces. We were the only boat to have double limits so I’m pretty stoked with that.
