#11234, "DV Report"

I fished at Diamond Valley over the weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect - having read everything from tough day and crappy rental boats to awesome days and great rental boats. Well...

I arrived at the lake around 6 a.m. for a 6:30 a.m. boat rental reservation. The lines were incredibly long and by the time I got in the boat and on the water - it was 7:30ish. The boats were top notch. I didn't have any trouble running out of gas, the trolling motor worked fine all day and the batter never gave out. The guys working on the docks were polite, and very helpful. I had no complaints what-so-ever regarding the service and the boats.

The fishing was tough. I caught 5 fish for the whole day. All drop shotting robo worms in 40-45 feet of water. That's just where the fish were. But in most cases - they were suspended. Every where I ran on the lake, I metered fish at 45 feet with huge balls of bait. I never saw any fish shallow at all. All of my fish were healthy fish from 1.5 to 2.5 pounds. They fought great.

The morning was very foggy and the lake got pretty windy by mid day and it was tough to hold a position in the wind. Never felt too crowded on the water, despite the huge crowds. Some boaters lacked ettiquette and were out and out and jerks - but over all - it was a nice, but hard day on the water. They pretty much kick you off the water by 5:30 p.m.

I did throw some small swim baits, spinner blades, cranks, jigs, etc., but the only thing that I got bit on was the drop shot in deep water. There isn't alot of shallow water and the drop off from the shoreline is steep.

It appeared that quite a few people got skunked and I have to say I didn't see any stringers of fish or any live floaters either.

It's worth a trip and I'm sure I'll be going back in the future.
