Well for drop shot I'd use a light to medium action 6' to 6'10" rod and use 4-8lb test, casting or spinning reel.(spinning reel is much easier to use for this application since you're using very light baits). For jerkbaits I would use a medium to medium heavy action 6' to 6'6" rod and use 8-15lb test. Jerkbaits are also referred to as stick baits and are made by Lucky Craft(pointers), Smithwick(rattling rogues) or Bomber(Long A's). They're similar to crankbaits because they also have a bill but much smaller and are longer & slender. They're called jerkbaits because in order to fish the bait you jerk your rod tip in order to give the bait it's action. As far not having a fishfinder, if I were you I'd invest in a portable model. These come in a case which also doubles as a stand and the transducer(the part that hangs off the side of the boat and reads the bottom) has a suction cup base which can be stuck to the transom(rear) of any boat. The suction cup base is removable and perfect for use on rentals. I've seen new Lowrance & Eagle portable fishfinders sell on ebay for less than $100. I hope this helps, good luck!
