#6492, "Cachuma Report Oct 25 & 26"

Fished Cachuma Friday and Saturday. First off the lake is the lowest I've ever seen. Lots of structure out of water and a good opportunity to GPS areas, trees, and structure for when the water does come back up. Lower end of the lake is stained. Upper half, fairly clear. Only saw a few bass fishermen on the lake.

Friday: Started off fishing the buzz bait in the stained water. No biters. Then went to the spook. Bingo. Got a 2 1/2lb. Then went into the narrows. Missed one on the spook. Fished visable wood and steep walls. Found a good spot and got a 4 1/2 on a jignpig and then a 2 1/2 on a spinner bait. Not bad. Its only 9:30. Hit a point and dropped a good fish (came unbuttoned). Darn. Work upper end of the lake with an AC minnow. Lots of followers, but no biters. Dropped shot two fish off of some steep walls. Good quality fish. Both were about 3 3/4 lbs each. Hit a few points in Cachuma bay and got another nice fish before calling it quits. Best five fish about 17-18 lbs.

Saturday: Fished with the infamous Keldawg. Threw the trout bait right off the bat in some select areas. We managed three fish 3, 4 and 5 lbs in the first 50 minutes out. Went to another spot and I got another 4 lb fish on a trout bait. The sun was bright and I hit a spot where I dropped the fish from the day before. Bingo! Got him. A 4 lber. Not sure if it was the same fish, but what the heck.

Took Keldawg back to the area where I got the jig fish and got three more to go. Bounced around the lake to fish areas that I dont usually bother with just to learn them better. No takers for now. Best 5 fish about 22 lbs.

Summary: Glad I spent the time to fish with a good bud and learn the lake better. Thanks Kelly.
