#2701, "January 25, 2002 - Coyote"

Darn weathermen. Yesterday we have a special weather advisory, and today we get high hazy clouds. Oh well. Nicolo and I were at Coyote today. He was there all day from early in the morning. I got on the water around 10 and fished till dark. I started where I caught that 11 on Sunday and after about 20 minutes I decided to crab my crankbait rod. A couple casts later I get this funky bite and didn't really set on it. The rod loaded up and I realized it was a fish. She was really close to me and by the time I got a couple cranks I saw her come up and roll. This was the same moment I realized my crankbait was no longer attached. Damn. That fish looked like about 8lbs maybe better. The rest of the day was incredibly tough. I wound up catching one fish on a watermelon / black flake brush hog. It was only about 2 and a half. I did talk to a kid in a Zodiak who had a 9 and a half pounder on a jig. It was in his livewell, nice fish. That was his only fish he said. I dragged all sorts of plastic around, brush hog, tube, mad man, senko and never got bit. I threw the Slammer and the Generic anywhere that looked good and never got touched. Nicolo had a few bites but didn't land anything. A couple guys in bass boats looked like they weren't doing anything either.

I think they were letting water out and it was screwing it up. There was definitely an outgoing current in the lake. Weather was glassy calm all day, barely a ripple, with Sun and high clouds. Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
