#2113, "November 18, Rancho Goleta Lake"

Dang it was cold tonight. I should've brought a jacket. The evening started off pretty slow. No fish in my usual places, but I finally stuck one on the slammer. Smaller kine, 1 pound variety. Kept throwin the plug and got two back to back in the same spot. One was about 2# and change, and the other was keeper size. This was toward teh end of the lake, and I decided to make one more pass on it to see if I could get my limit. Went up to the narrows and fished the whole area, until I got over toward the overhanging tree. Tossed the slammer over that way, and said to myself, what's the deal with this dead sticking stuff. I'd never had a blow up deadsticking a trout plug, so I decided to let it sit until the rings cleared, and sure enough, what must've been the dumbest bass in history blows up on, and misses a dead still 9" long trout plug. Toss a couple more times toward the three for nothing, and then toss out to the left and just as I lift the bait out of the water one boils on it and bites the tail off my slammer. Half the time I get this feeling that a fish is following my bait and I'm either ready for it, or I drag it a little further and he blows up on it, but this fish totally surprised me. I tossed out a couple times to make sure they weren't going wide on me, and then decided to take my tail-less slammer and head home. As I'm walking back I decide to toss out from the road in the back of this cove, just cause I hadn't fished it. I get a little smack on the first cast, so I throw it out again and stick another keeper size fish on a tail-less slammer, from the road. That was funny. Asphalt fishin. If I wasn't already halfway to my truck, and on the other side of the lake I would've stuck around for my 5th fish, but I took off with 4. Darn it, only 4 wood fish for free, 10 min from my house, in less than an hour of fishing ;-) Gotta love it.
