The photo gallery has been updated from Gallery 1.5 to version 2.0.2. The intention in doing the upgrade is to allow for greater functionality in the gallery and correct a problem calling random images from the home page.

The new gallery version is functionally very similar to the old version, however the exact location of menus and the exact methods for performing certain tasks have changed.

Some question and answer:

Q: Is it ok for me to make changes in my gallery now?
A: Yes absolutely.

Q: I noticed a broken image in my gallery - can this be fixed?
A: Out of the 2072 photos in the gallery, 5 images were broken during the migration. I will be retrieving these files from backup and fixing them. ETA is the end of this week.

Q: How do I sort my album now?
A: The simple method is to log in and go to your album. Click on rearrange items. Click the item that you want to move (it will highlight in red). Click where you want to move it to. The image will move there.

The advanced method is to go to your main album page and click on "Edit Album" then click on the Album tab. The first option on that screen is the default sort order. You can select any of the listed options to sort your gallery. Remember to click save.

Q: Can I customize the apperance of my own gallery?
A: Yes, there are a number of new customization options available. Log in, go to your album and click "Edit Album" from the menu. Go to the Album tab. You can change a number of settings here including the default theme, thumbnail size, etc.

Q: What does the date mean under my albums and images?
A: The date listed under each album and image is the date that the item was created on. I am looking into how to supress this date so that it doesn't show up on the screen.

Q: Some of the text in my image descriptions got cut off, what happened?
A: During the import, text is cut off after a certain character limit. If you lost text, I aplogize - it was unavoidable. You can always edit the text to a shorter caption.

Q: I just uploaded a pic but I don't see it?
A: Right now, new images will go to the end of your gallery. In the old version they went to the front. I am working on changing this back to normal but in the mean time, just look to the end of your gallery, then rearrange as you see fit. If you've set a default sort order based on file name, it may sort automatically.

Q: I see a new option for add comment, what does this mean?
A: I have turned on commenting for the gallery for registered users only. This means that registered users can go to a picture, click on 'add comment' and make a comment on the picture. You have control of the comments in your gallery so if you want to remove something inappropriate you can do so. If this feature is abused I will turn it off.

Q: I want a gallery, what should I do?
A: Use the contact form:
http://www.calfishing.com/contact/index.html
Provide me with a valid email address, your name, and your forum login if you have one. I will create a gallery for you. Remember, you MUST provide me a valid email address so that I can reply to you. Your email address will never be displayed anywhere on this website.

Q: I forgot my password, what should I do?
A: Go to the gallery. You will see a box in the upper left where you can enter your user name and password. Try logging in. If your password is incorrect it will take you to a second page where you can click, " Lost or forgotten passwords can be retrieved using the recover password page ". Your password will be emailed to you.

Q: What is this option "Print on Shutterfly.com"?
A: I've enabled the Shutterfly option as a convenience for anyone who wants to print out pictures from their gallery. Basically you select the photos you want to print and you pay Shutterfly.com to print them out and mail them to you. This is not an endorsement of the service (I've never used it) but merely a convenience for you.

Q: How do I pick which picture shows up as the main picture in my gallery?
A: Log in and go to the picture that you want to highlight. Click the drop down menu under the picture. Click on "Make Highlight"

Q: Can I upload video to my gallery?
A: Yes, video clips may be uploaded to the gallery. I have not explored this feature fully but it should work so if you have a clip from your digital camera or camera phone, by all means give it a try.

Q: I am tired of having to make a lot of clicks to get to the gallery I want to get to, how do I speed it up?
A: In the navigation on the left and at the bottom of every page is a pull down menu that can link you to any gallery in the site so you don't have to click your way to it.

Q: The link to my gallery stopped working, what was happening?
For about 5 days after the migration, old gallery URL's did not work. That has since been corrected so links like:

http://www.calfishing.com/gallery/rob_belloni

will work again like normal now.

Q: I still need help with something
A: Don't be bashful, ask me as a reply to this thread or contact me via the contact form. Let's push this forward :D
