The first thing to remember is that generally flyfishing the salt is going to be slower than more conventional methods in most situations.
So, you need to key in on the few situations that give flyfishing even footing or a advantage when compared to standard techniques. You also need to be honest with yourself about your skill level.
For example there is a slough near where I live that has some fairly good extremely shallow water fishing. The fish here are very spooky due to the depth/exposure. A very good flyfisher can put a scented fly in front of a Leopard Shark and get bit more readily than I can with a heavy conventional rig. On the other hand, even though I've flyfished off and on (mostly off) for 12 years, if I tried to drop a fly in front of one of these Sharks the resultant line slap or other flycasting disaster would result in every shark in a 1/4 mile vacating the area.
