#672, "Senko o-ring tool"

If you do not throw senko’s than you do not know there is a high loss ratio on these baits. It’s no secret (although Gary Yamamoto would like to keep it a secret) that some senko users, when fishing wacky, use an o-ring to save their senko. If your hook is placed under an o-ring, which is in the center of the senko, the senko will slide up your line when a fish is on. Without the o-ring you will get the fish but loose the senko. You can actually catch 10 fish (or more) on one bait if the o-rig is used. The secret is getting the o-ring around the senko. I got tired of ruining senko’s when putting the ring around it so I came up with a tool. There is a tool on eBay for getting the ring around 5” senko’s but it doesn’t work for 6 inchers.

If you look at the first attachment you will see three rounds, a .375 H&H mag, a .300 Winchester mag, and a Kynoch .450/.400 nitro express. What I did was cut the belt off the round then reamed the inside diameter and filed the outside. The first to rounds will work for a 6” senko. I put the micrometer to the nitro express round and I am sure it will work on a 7” senko but at $16 a round I think there is a better idea.

The second attachment shows the o-ring placed on the neck of the .300 Winchester case.

The third attachment shows the case placed through the senko with the o-ring ready to be rolled on the senko.

The last attachment shows the o-ring removed from the case and placed on the bait ready for a hook to be placed under it.

When building one of these tools make sure there are no burrs. If a burr is on the inside it will tear up the senko, if on the outside it will tear up your hand.
