Just wondering if anyone has ever used a Calstar GX7/GX8 based rod for throwing the smaller trout plugs?

I like the GX7 and a Newell 220 clamped on for swimbaiting blacks/blues/'buts/etc--would this be a decent rod for the small to medium wood plugs?
