#614, "Spooling line-careful!!"
|
I just finished spooling some line on one of my reels and about half way through I noticed i had cut some grooves in the part of the frame right below the line guide (line was on the floor, reel in my hand). I'm kinda pissed becuase now i have about 6 small gooves in the white finish of my chronach. You know, for 200 bux I would have expected a little better finish, grrrrr. Oh well, live and learn!

wow! thanks for the warning. unfortunately the finish or part is not hard anodized, many are only plastic.
how were you holding the spool of line, just on its end on the ground? if so, that is the way to fill a spinning reel. Filling a baitcaster like that puts a 90 degree twist in the line as it goes onto the reel. Same for a spinner if you fill it from a spool on a stick that's 90 degrees to it. just a side note, curious as to your method.

I stuck a pencil through the spool, and then rested my feet on the pencil, so that the spool was between my feet, and then the line was on the top of the spool feeding into my reel. Does that make sense? kind of hard to put in to words. in anycase that shouldn't put any twist on the line.

Hahahaha totally makes sense--kinda like what I do. I use a chopstick or a pencil with a spool on it and hold it with my toes of both feet.

i think you missunderstood that...i was sayin , in a sarcastin manner , that a little groove in your reel is not ganna make a diference in if the fish are ganna hit or not. i wasnt sayin you wouldnt catch fish anyway. tight lines Ryan
