#21567, "Reel Grease"

I just got a new setup about 2 weeks ago, with a Shimano Curado reel, and already the spool is slowing down, especially when i reel in. It feels like i am reeling in something big, when its just a small crankbait. I think it needs some grease or something. ANY SUGGESTIONS????

Thanks,

Jdub

Jdub, if you picked up a curado a couple weeks ago, I'm pretty sure that it shouldn't need grease, mostly if it was brand new. Make sure the settings on it are correct, maybe the black knob on the right needs to be loosened. Just what I think.

Dave,
WHen i reel in i hear like a noise of like the spool rubbing against something. Same when i reel in,it reels fine for a second, then it gets stuck kinda, then it goes good again.

Open the side plate that has the magnetic controls. You can easily access the spool & make sure nothing is caught in there.

My guess is like Dave's - either your spool tensioner knob (the black knob by the handle) is set too tight, and/or you have all of the mag cast controls set (you push them "in" to release, pull them "out" to get more cast control). Try loosening the spool tensioner, releasing all the mag cast controls, & loosening the star drag some. Then, if it frees up the spool, try messing with just one of those things until you figure out what's wrong.

If all else fails, take it back to where you bought it & exchange it. Shimano makes a great product & it would be rare to run into a defective one. But, it could happen.

All good suggestions so far. One last thing to check is if the handle is bent. I had a bent handle once and it caused a similar problem because it was rubbing as it went around. If it's still messed up, like Andy said, just send it back.
