I fished Del Valle today going after bass. The lake was fairly blown out by all the rain and I didn't get a single bite on the bass, but in the afternoon I got whomped on the huddleston by a solid 18.4lb striper }(. My drag was basically locked which made for a good line test for my 25lb triple fish. That and the fact that the fish had the entire bait inside it's mouth and it's mouth was shut :9 The fight was less than a minute. That's the first striper I've caught at Del Valle and it was a kick in the pants for sure. The lakes need a few weeks to stablize for the bass I think.

Very nice! Were you still working the lure for Bass or did you throw to a boil or any other indication that there was a Striper there? Tight lines, Wade

That fish ate the ROF12. I was just casting along down past a little point. The fish hit totally out of the blue. It was pretty lucky considering the water visiblity was 1 foot, the bait must have just happened to go right by the fish. I've never seen a striper boil at Del Valle, but I've also never been there on a weekday or when they stock trout. I think weekend boat traffic usually puts those fish down. The fish had the bait so far inside it's mouth the lure came out undamaged, which was nice :)

That's cool, nice fish!!I kinda like Striper/LMB lakes just for that reason, you might be targeting one or the other but the odds might be more in your favor of catching a nice fish period.
But..don't go and catch too many stripers, you just might find yourself chasing them all over the state, they do get bigger than LM ;-)
