#1099, "Help posting pics"

My father-in-law emailed me the pics of my 16lber since I don't have a scanner. They are too large to open. Is there anything I can do to open them and post them? Thanks, Jerry

Where are they too large to open? You mean you can't get them out of your email inbox, or you can't upload them to the site? If they are too big for your email, you'll need your Uncle to shrink them down before he sends them. He should be able to do this using a program like paint shop pro or whatever. Tell him to resize the pictures to be 400 pixels wide. Also make sure they are in .jpg or .gif format. Most scanners like to scan to .tif by default. .tif files are HUGE and no good for emailing/posting.

I can probably shrink them down to an appropriate size & put 'em up here for you. E-mail it (them?) to: jeff_a_smith@amat.com

I would imagine you can just forward his e-mail to me, without having to open them yourself, if that's causing you problems.

You're right, they're big files, over 1MB apiece. That '.pdd' format looks like what the default is on my Adobe PhotoDeluxe at home. I'll take 'em home tonight & see if I can get 'em converted to .jpg's.

I had to 'zip' your files to fit 'em on a floppy. When I got home, I was kicking myself, cuz I *thought* I had WinZip on my home computer, but I don't -- I had no way to 'unzip' them (no internet access at home, either).

I can do something over the weekend, by processing them on my mother-in-law's computer. I'm gonna also forward them to 'Fish Chris' to see if maybe he can do something with them sooner (not sure if he has the appropriate software, though).

Sorry about the mix-up, but we'll DEFINITELY have something for you on Monday! (I still think you can 'export' these to a 'jpg format yourself, from the application you created the 'pdd' files in -- I think that's an Adobe-proprietary format. I have Adobe PhotoDeluxe at home, and it's a fairly simple operation. The 'jpg' files are usually less than *1/10* the size of the equivalent 'pdd' files, AND they're more comaptible across all platforms as jpg's!).

Actually, .PDD files can be opened with Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Photdeluxe. I found a listing of image formats and extensions at the following url:

http://www.daubnet.com/formats/

BTW, if you're having any problems or issues, feel free to email the images to vince@theblankslate.com as an attachment. I'll convert the images and email them back plus post them to the website. (I'm an IT guy so I'm used to answering these type of questions all day long.)

If you're having any problems and need assistance, feel free to IM on Yahoo with the screen name vinceborrego and I'll walk you through the process of converting the files.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help on the photos, Vince! (Yeah, I knew the pictures were Adobe-app-specific; I just couldn't get 'em to my hard drive at home, since I have no internet access there).
