#7474, "Folsom Lake"

Hey Everyone,
Folsom is my home lake and I live 15 min. away from it. I have hit it hard for several years and my PB there is a 8lb. 7oz. on a optimum swimbait. I have also caught several 6-7+ lb. on swimbaits and jigs. The last two years I became a little bored with fishing here ( and sick of the scourge of the spotted bass)and fished clear lake a lot and the delta with good results. However with gas prices, family obligations & heavy workload at my job I decided to focus on Folsom again to get more time on the water.
My goal is to catch one over 10 at Folsom this year and my long term goal is the lake record. ( Might as well aim high ) I consider my self a better than average angler and have a good boat tackle ect. Anyone have any tips they do not mind sharing to help with this goal?
I fish alot on mon. and do not mind sharing a seat from time to time if any one wants to hook up.

I've only been to Folsom once and did lousy but regardless of the lake, the formula is always the same if you want giant fish. You need to be fishing one of these techniques:

swimbait
sight fish
big jig, probably in black/red
big worm
live bait

You want big bass, that's what you do, it's really that simple. The odds of getting bass on anything else are long odds indeed. If you go to the lake with only those 5 techniques, you will eventually get into big fish. It might take a while or you might get them first trip just because you are re-focused on getting big ones. Good luck and don't throw any drop shot rigs ;)

Thanks for the reply Rob. I feel I am on the right track as I have fattened up my swimbait arsenal and my jig selection (Mostly dk. blue or black & red. Got a swimbait trolling stick set up for the times when I am casted out.
Another question, most of my swimbaits are the usual Hudds, some ospreys, SR dragons ect. in the 8-9" range. If want to hunt for the king of the lake do I need to step up to the really big stuff? As far as bigger baits go I have a Rago hard bait and a couple of the large ospreys. What are some of you guys confidence baits when going for really large fish in a lake like Folsom- clear & rocky .

I am trying to crack Folsom as well since I am only 12 miles from the lake. My goal for this year sounds much like yours, get a 10+ Largmouth from the lake as well as a 5+ Spot. I have been three times already this year throwing swimbaits and I have yet to catch a fish on Folsom. I am going to keep at it and I know that the big fish will show eventually.

Lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what have-yous
