That is a very cool arial shot. It always gets me how clear neighboring Briones is. Of course Briones is closed to the public. Funny thing about that place is, I have heard of guys who have snuck onto it and reported big numbers of good fish...... but a trophy lake ? NOT. Two things make Pablo 10X's better..... Fishing pressure keeps the numbers low, meaning less competition between fish, and of course, tons of hatchery trout !

Peace,
Fish

Were these posted previously on this site? These, too, show a *real* enticing view of Briones -- God, I *hate* when they won't let me fish these ponds!!!

Briones is the 'bluer' one on the right. It's closed to public access (I think for drinking water purposes -- or just some other (wacko?) environmental reason), much like Crystal Springs west of Hwy 280, or San Antonio & Calaveras between Pleasanton & Milpitas (Sunol?).

I'm not sure what the 'trespassing' penalty is on these ponds if caught, but I'm guessing it's well over $200, and you're likely to have your fishing gear confiscated, as well!

Now, that's a stiff enough penalty to keep *me* from trying, but if you're one of those brave, reckless souls, I say "GO FOR IT"! I know many before me have tried, and lived to tell the story. Let us know how you do!!! (I'm not sure I really want to know, though -- it'd probably just make me *more* insane about it!). }(

I talked to the Sherrif one time at Pablo. Not the park police, the acutal Sherrif. He said he patrols Briones and has rousted some guys out of there who claimed to have caught some big fish. The vibe I got from him was that if you get caught, they will seriously roust you. Just in case anyone was getting any ideas!

I'm still wanting to find a 'point of contact,' shall we say, at the San Jose Water Company -- there're a couple of ponds managed by them that have 'No Trespassing' signs all around 'em, but I understand they'll let you fish there if you know someone in the company. A guy I met at the Sportsmen's Expo told me they have an annual SJWC Bass Derby at one pond in particular, where they have a whole slew of people out there for a big weekend BBQ & all -- the guy had some pictures of the hawgs out of this pond, and they're HUGE! I've scoped the place out, but never had the nerve to toss a plug out there.

"Please -- I just want to make a *FEW CASTS*!!!" ;(

I once fished a no-access water district pond back in the early 80's, up above Alum Rock Park in SJ, where, once we crawled under/through the barbed-wire fence, my first cast -- with a *Hula Popper* of all things -- landed me an 8+, which at the time was far and away the biggest bass I had ever caught, and was quite the thrill (unfortunately, it didn't taste all that great -- these were the days before I had ever heard the term 'catch-&-release'!) :o

Boy, it'd be great to get back up there sometime! (Ah, to be young again!)

I took the later pictures of Pablo. I have taken pictures of other lakes in the past but not recently. You all should see Cachuma from the air it's so low it's sad, the same with Piru. Oddly Casitas' water level doesn't look as bad as some of the others.....BassMan
