Launched from Escondido Creek with my kayak at 5, still dark but getting light. I wouldnt have tried launching in the dark but the waves were so buttery that I couldnt resist. Paddled out to the kelp and farmed two bites in the same area on a 5" mackeral FT. I finally connected with a small calico after 10 minutes and when I unhooked him I noticed something sawed off the tail of my swimbait. Rigged another 5" mackeral FT on and after one cast, BAM! My first WSB, only 22 inches. Released him, casted back out and BAM, 18 inch WSB. The next cast something sawed me off so I retied a shallow running fastrac, casted it into a bait ball and BAM, another sublegal seabass. Long story short, I CnR'd 9 short seabass up to 22", 4 legal calicos up to 15", 1 15" sandbass, and one giant kelpfish. I caught about half on shad raps and shallow running fastracs and half on FTs. My funnest day kayak fishing by far! Now I just have to bag a legal! Tight Lines, Tommy
