I decided to take advantage of a day off and do a little fishing aboard the Matt Walsh. Instead of fishing the flat we stayed local and fished horse shoe kelp. The bite was never wide open but we did manage a steady picking on the barracuda. The calico's never really made a big showing. I was able to landing 3 calico's and two cuda's on a 5" silver sardine Big Hammer lure and another 4 cuda's on a tady c mint/white. I lost another 4 cuda's fishing the 12lb p-line fly lining sardines. All in all it was a fun day of fishing.

Ahhh, the Fat Matt. That was the first boat I ever went out on about 20 years ago. Live squid for bait, fishing was slow, and I got sick :o

I'm surprised you didn't get into any sandies. You should try throwing some surface irons for the barries in a blu/wht or blu/chrome color on 30lb test. A lot of fun and you'll break off a lot less!

Hello E-man, speaking of breaking off a lot less, I lost my favorite tady c in the mint green/ white. I've have tried blue/white and chrome white but for some reason I get bit a little better on the mint/white. Who knows why. In Mexico blue/chrome is all that I throw. I normally throw my tady's on either 20 or 30lb test, but my wife's cousins wanted to go and I had to let them use my heavy stuff. They also managed a few calico's and cudas on sardines. I think there was only like 5 sandies caught.

Have you had much luck on the black/white?

I've never tried in the blk/wht pattern but I don't see why that shouldn't work. Sandies are pretty much wide open now. Wish I had the time to go out, I usually fish the Santa Monica bay area for bass & flatties. Talk to u later.
