#7064, "Clearlake"

Over the weekend I got to go to Clearlake for the first time and I'm sure I’ll be going back again soon. We left here late Thursday evening, drove all night and splashed the boat before sunrise in a pretty good wind storm. We could only fish the north shore and found some fair bed fish, nothing flipping, frogging, and only 2 on the Lucky Craft LV 500 and no other reaction fish. By the time we were getting the boat out of the lake it was raining on us but by 7:00 the clouds were gone, the wind had died and I wanted to go out again. I got to sleep around 11:00 and got up for the signups at 4:00 where I got a chance to talk to Rob, which was very nice. Clearlake is incredible, good fishing structure and cover everywhere, and I would love to get back there when the bite is good. We ended up weighing 24 pounds for 5 fish good enough for 2nd place but it was almost all bed fish and a couple of Senko fish. If you like to fish docks this is the place for you. If you like to flip tules, or wood, or grass, throw frogs, or Senkos, or rattletraps, go to Clearlake, you will not be disappointed! I got to see a fair amount of the lake in 2 day’s fishing but it was only a primer for everything else up there. It took us 6.5 hours to drive there and we stayed in the Skylark Motel in Lakeport which was very comfortable and had its own launch ramp. I'm ready to go again soon.

Pete,

Congrats to you and Jared on 2nd place. I'm impressed you guys were able to sight fish a nice bag like that given the conditions and the pressure that's been on the lake lately. Clear Lake is an awesome lake, I'm sure you will be back :-) Sorry I didn't stick around to chat after the tourney. I was running on about 3 hours of sleep if that and I was just burned out. Going back this weekend for the B-n-T. Should be fun!

-Rob

Rob,
I looked for you and Mrs. Swimbait at the awards but John said you headed out. We got our pictures taken and were in the truck as soon as possible but we still didn't get home until midnight. We caught a couple of good Senko fish in addition to the sight fish, one in the 'traditional' manner of casting and letting it sink and one flipping into holes in the tules. the water was murky in Jago but pretty clear in the other arm. Fun! I'd love to get back there soon.

Pete,

Congratulations on the 2nd place win! Sounds like a neat lake to fish. Hopefully things will slow down for me and I can go back to bugging you every few days j/k. The only fishing i've done in 3 weeks was a trip to Salmon creek last weekend. My brother and I caught tons of beautiful rainbows up to 12". I'll be in soon when I can get back to fishing. See ya soon.

Phil,
Sorry I missed you at the shop the other day, but it sounds like a great trip to Salmon Creek! How far up the creek did you go? Were you flyfishing or bait? I've never caught a 12"er out of there but I know people do. It's a little shorter drive for you and I suppose you went up there alot when you were growing up and know it well. See you on the lake soon, Pete
