I like to go over to Chabot every once and a while to get a good skunk trip in. Saturday afternoon was no exception. Bright clear skies and a cold breeze greeted me as I walked around the lake hucking trouts for a few hours. I never saw a fish bigger than 10 inches in 3 or 4 hours of fishing. Finished off the day by hanging one of the new generic swimbaits in a tree and snapping it off. Lake Chabot has no love for me. One day I'll get a good one there, but in the mean time I'll just keep putting in the skunk trips :-)

Nothing tops off a good day of getting skunked like losing a nice trout plug!Sounds like you need to find a good tree climbing kid and give him a couple bucks to do some lure recovery! ;)

Or give the bugger some scuba gear :)

Should of been in SD.

I luanched the boat at Otay for a little prefishing on Sat. to the tune of pouring down rain. Launched around 3:00 in the afternoon, put on the raingear and went out in the mess. Just wanted to look around a little, and did not want to get into my rod locker to tie anything on, so I chucked the 12" slammer. No love as far as fish in the boat, but I did have a few Shamu look-a-likes come up from the depths. Too bad there has never been trout in that lake. It just goes to show the natural instinct of the fish. Those fish have never been exposed to trout, (unless Upper Otay floods over and they survive the fall) and yet they will still follow, and hit, the trout baits. Cool.

Yeah, Chabot is my enemy. I've only lost 3 trout plugs ever, and 2 were at Chabot ... and I've only lost 3 bass over 10 and 2 were at Chabot. There's big dogs in there, and there's a couple guys who fish it religiously for them, but that lake doesn't cough 'em up easy that's for sure.

naw, it was one of the rubber ones, not the hundred dollar hardbaits. I'd have gone swimming for that!
