#6145, "Carbon Canyon - carping with a twist"

I went to carbon canyon regional park to do some carp fishing, i have never caught a carp before so i figured go to the closest lake to my house. It was a good idea, i caugh about 15 carp in two hours. they werent real big, maybe about a pound. Then i got a light tap on my line, so i think yippee another carp, but it was followed by my pole doubling over, flying over a park bench, they being grabbed by me right before it hit the water. With my 4lb stren line and my trout pole , i reeled in a fish i thought was a monster carp, it never jumped. When i got it to show i realized it was a easy 7lb largemouth. Caught it on corn bread mix of all things. I have a theory though, i think a carp got hooked and a bass saw iot stuggle for a second while i was getting to my pole, and in that time he ate the carp somehow getting a tiny circle hook stuck perfectly in his mouth. Anyways it was cool the park rangers were right next to me and cheered me as i fought the fish. I love this lake , good fishin' and its only five minutes from my house.

tight lines

Thats great John! That's not out of the question for a 7lb bass to eat a carp.In a lake that size you eat what you can. That's cool though, glad you landed him!

Pyramid lake a friend of mine caught a nice smallmouth on a dead chovie. The corn meal could have moved just the right way to get a reaction bite

a CHOVIE IS A LOT DIFFERENT THAN A BALL OF CORNBREAD, IT DOESNT LOOK LIKE A FISH AND DOESNT SMELL LIKE A FISH

Look, I'm not really sure why you feel the need to get all psycho...But Bass are not known to eat A) Dead Bait or B) Corn Meal.

I was just adding a "possible" suggestion...It could have been a number of things at the hook end of your line that caused the bass to bite.
