#4463, "Fishing near Yucaipa?"

My wife has a job at a Camp near Yucaipa which means I'll be spending weekends up there. Any good summer fishing spots near Yucaipa?

Thanks
RF

Hey RF,

I live in Yucaipa and there is quite a few places to fish all with in a half hour of Yucaipa, including Yucaipa Regional Park. What kind of fishing where you looking for? Trout, Catfish, Bass? Let me know and i'll be able to help out a little more! Are you going to be up this way every weekend?

Hey thanks,
With it being summer I'm thinking warm water fish will be the ticket so bass, cats, or even places with good pan fish populations would be o.k. I know about the regional park but have never fished it. Where else can I go?

Your best bet for close by Panfish is probably Perris.

It's about 1/2 hour from Yucaipa. I've caught big bluegills and crappie throwing smallish cranks. A #5 Rapala shallow shad rap. I know this seems like a large panfish crank, but it keeps the small ones from bugging you. Closer is Lake Hemet. There are a lot of bluegills in Hemet, but they seem to be smaller. A bobber and jig is probably your best bet there.

Actually Lake Hemet is further from Yucaipa then Perris, Lake Perris is about 30 minutes away, while Hemet is almost one hour.

Perris does have the best Bass and panfish bite around, but if you want Trout, just up in the mountains there is Jenks Lake which is about 40 minutes up the mountain. Catfish fishing is ok at Yucaipa, but I would probably hit up Anglers Lake in Hemet for catfish. The only time I fish localy at the regional park, is for the Trout in winter.

If you have any questions email me, jasonhuckeba@socalfishing.net

Here's a picture of Jenks Lake as well.
