#15489, "Back then and now?"

I've only been into fishing now one year or so. I take for granted all the technology I use to fish with- nylon fishing lines, graphite rods, modern reels, and the list goes on. Do you think all of this stuff really helps me to fish more successfully? I mean, did our grandparents do worse than us? What did they have to work with? Not to be disrespectful, but I'd like to hear from some people that have been breathing longer than me about what it was like a while back. The other thing I'd like to know is who are your greatest teachers and influences with respect to fishing? Thanks in advance.

Pick up a copy of "In Pursuit of Giant Bass" by Lunker Bill Murphy- great book for today as well as a great bit of history- check Amazon or E-Bay.
