I was up fishing the Cal Poly pond again. Caught two real small largemouth, a little under a pound each probably. On 4.5" brown colored texas rigged worms.

Around dark I saw a lot of fish feeding on the surface, big boils, little boils, splashes. Pretty much all the time there were fish rushing the surface. This was about 30-45 minutes before the sun went down. I tried throwing my Hula Popper out there, nothing. I tried rigging a worm so i could work it with a fast retrieve along the surface, nothing. I tried my spinnerbait, jigging with the worm, bottom jigging with the worm. nothing could get these fish to strike. I was thinking maybe if I had a flyrod I could cast some sort of pattern out and hook up a whole lot of fish.

Anyone have any tips on how to catch these fish? Should I try a small curly tail behind a jighead? I ordered some smaller worms and some bigger worms from Cabelas, as well as a shallow crankbait, another popper, one of thos eliving eye jigs and a titanium spinnerbait.

Another thing, the water level seems to be dropping really fast in this pond. Will the fish keep striking? Will the pond ever dry up. I also found the waay bigger resevoir, so Im not worried about losing a spot to fish.

Thanks

Evan

Hey, are you talking about the horse reservoir pond that is off of via carta road across from the baseball stadium? That is a cool pond to fish in as well. Hey let me know when you are going to hit up poly ponds, i would like to join you. I have had good luck getting the bass to bite top water with rebel wee-frogs and wee-hopper. Give those a try.

I was thinking about heading up there tommorow afternoon. After I do some studying for finals. Im still waiting for my shipment from Cabelas to come in. Got a new spinnerbait, shallow crank, popper, and some worms.

If you're interested in heading up there tommorow afternoon. Send me an email, tommorow morning. Ill check it around 11. Leave a number if you want me to call you and arrange a time. I've gone the last two days. Caught one fish on the 4.5" worm yesterday, two today. Thats all thats been working for me. I kind of have a limited lure selection until after Spring Break when I bring my lures back over.
