Has anyone fished in the Thermolito Afterbay below Lake Oroville? I am working up there and drive by it twice everyday and was wondering if it would be worth stopping and wetting a line. Thanks.

There was an article about the Afterbay in the newest Bass West magazine. It is a shallow weedy lake much like clear lake or the Delta, and it has some decent Largemouth in it. Not sure how it would fish this time of year as most of the reports I have heard about the lake have been from the summertime.

I have heard it is really good in summer, not sure about right now either. Dave Rush filmed a show at Oroville a couple years ago and also spent a couple hours in the afterbay, he says the fishing can be better there than Oroville. I am going to be working nearby there off an on for the next 2 months so if anyone has any advise I would appreciate it. Thanks.

If you are referring to the area on highway 162 (oro dam blvd) heading towards 99 that can be great for bass early spring. That water is shallow and warms up fast. I lived in Oroville until 4 years ago. It can produce limits but not usually any size. I like to Carolina 6" plastics anywhere you can find a hump. Where the 162 bridge goes over the water there is rip rap on both sides. Try throwing a Fire Tiger crankbait on the east end of the bridge. Also at the south end of the afterbay there is a spillway where water is released back into the Feather River. This produces current and you may have luck with a dropshot. Good luck and fill me in on your results.

Stopped by today, did not have any luck. Talked to a guy pulling out and he said he did not get anything. Water temp was 52-55 degrees, but rose 3 ft overnight. Might be good in a couple weeks.
