We've got a float tube club out of Bakersfield and we're looking to make it bigger. The following are results from our last tourney.

Well, we finally got some decent fish in the wells this tourney. Fished Success.

Winning weight was 13.8 for a limit.

Second went to a new guy that actually had to borrow my old round tube to fish. He had 9.9 pounds with three fish!!! You should have seen the crank bait he was using. It was some funky looking old crankbait with a skirt on the end of it. Go figure. Note to self: Don't let new guy borrow tube. Just kidding. I think that was cool that he did that well. I bet he'll have a hard time trying to use anything else. You know how that goes.

I took third with 8.41 pounds with four fish.

It turned out to be a great day. Even the people that didn't do as well were happy to see all the better quality fish.

Our next one is at Naciemento on November 22nd. It will be the last of the season. I know that's not too far for some of you. We'll be camping Friday and Saturday night. Tourney will be Saturday.

The fee schedules are as follows:
You can fish as a guest one tourney without paying membership fee of $25.00.

$20.00 Entry
$5.00 Big Fish (Optional) 60-40 pay-out, 1st and 2nd Big Fish
$10.00 Side Pot (Optional) 100% pay-out. Highest over all weight for person entered in side pot.

We're looking to have a good turn-out.

Todd G.

Hey Bassin. There is a 5 fish limit, 12", spotted, large , or smallmouth. Float Tube or Kick Boats only. Artificials only. All the rest is common sense. I'm pretty sure that we will launch from the main ramp around 5:30 in the morning. That was the plan as of yesterday at our meeting.

There could be 15+ fishing this one if some of the guys from
Bass-N-Tubes show up and some of you guys from the South. We only pay 1st place for up to 9 people. Ten people two places and 15 people 3 places. That doesn't include side pot and big fish.

Thanks for the info! This will be my first tourney, looking forward to it. You guys should try an organize more for these lakes around here (Lopez,Margarita,Naci,San Antonio) ...Anything else I should be aware of for the tourney?...I have a live well, its one of those laundry net around PVC types, is that suitable? Sorry for the possible stupid questions, just want to be prepared. And I am sure there are others around this area reading this.
Thanks again!

We all use the laundry bag type of live well. Also, get a Wil-E-Go board if you don't have one already.

We will be fishing San Antonio and Naci(Naci twice) for sure next season which starts in February. We need to secure some club insurance before we can get on Lopez. We're working on that.

What do you know about tubing Margarita? I've heard that there is very limited tube access. I've also heard that they do not allow it at all.

By the way, where are you coming from?

I live in Templeton (Near Paso Robles). I fish Margarita all the time from a tube, but your right, it is limited...50ft from shore line and mostly the bays around the marina and an area to the south (or east, depending on how you see it) of the lake....its been a heated topic for me, because the lake is very popular with kayakers and they have full access. If safety is the issue, then I would say that all tubes need those tall orange flags that they require on Off road cars and motorcycles at the Pismo Dunes. Or if your an adventurous type you can hike the 3 or 4 miles into the other end of the lake and fish that...Never been kicked out and I've done that a few times and done very well.

It's actually a body contact issue. If we wear waders, I don't know what the problem is. Oh well. What are you gonna do.

I don't suppose you'll camp since you live so close. It would be a good opportunity to get to know everyone. We have a good time when we get together.
