All this talk about what engines will be allowed on Diamond Valley makes me think that I should post this.

The last I heard, 4-stokes and injected 2-stokes that meet CARB standards will be allowed.

Whatever the policy is, it is effective at Diamond Valley as of the opening (whenever that will be), BUT THE SAME POLICY IS EFFECTIVE AT LAKE SKINNER AS OF JANUARY 1st, 2003.

I haven't been to Skinner since the 1st, so I don't know if they've implemented or are enforcing.

I would call ahead if I owned a non-injected 2-stroke. If anybody does, and finds that I'm in error, please reply.

Went to Skinner today. Asked the ranger at the gate about the 2_Strokes. She said that "they hadn't heard anything yet", and they were allowing them on the lake.

My engine is a 2 star rated two stroke. Because it is an off beat brand, the ranger told me that soon my engine would not be allowed on the water. I then informed her that my engine exceeds the CARB restrictions and the EPA emissions and it will be compliant at Diamond Valley and Skinner. She then told me I was wrong and she has never heard of my engine before. I own a Tohatsu 90 hp TLDI that runs cleaner than most 4-strokes. This winner who was working at skinner got all pissy with me when I showed her the sticker on the engine and then harassed me for rigging up my rods in the marina while tied to the dock, telling me there is no fishing in the marina and that I will recieve a citation if I do not leave. Watch out for the brain surgeon who works at skinner guys, a real inbred.

Muskyman,

Was at Skinner on Saturday 11JAN03. Saw some 2-strokes on the water that day, and that same ranger you are talking about was eyeballing everyone at the launch ramp 1, but I was never approached by her concerning my 92 2-Stroke Merc that day. Tossed the Osprey, and jigged at the rock pile with no bumps. Stopped at Diamond Valley on the way home, and asked the host there the estimated time the opener will be, and she said late summer/early fall. See you on the water.

I did not see the ranger that is usually there on the 11th, but I have previously made some negative comments about the female ranger that is there almost every day.

The ranger that is usually there is OK once you get to know her. I witnessed her one day making everybody get off the bouy line at the inlet. She was making everybody get 30 or 40 yards from the bouy line. I asked her what she was doing the next day at the gate, and she let me know that that was the 3rd time that morning she had rousted the same boats off the line, and she was being nice by not citing and kicking them out.

She is a little over aggressive in her interpretation of "mooring to a bouy line" and equates touching to mooring. Don't try to get away with dropping the trolling motor over the line, but I did see a guy on a bass rig that was staying right next to the line without touching it by working his trolling motor. He stuck to his guns, and she let him stay.

Another time she came up to the launch and asked some guy if he had a spare for his trailer. I thought she was going to cite him and I started trying to get out of there before she checked out mine. When he stated that he didn't, she stated that he should, and then pulled a new tire and rim that she found on the side of the road and gave it to him!!

Give her a chance. She is just trying to do her job, and she really puts up with lot of crap that she could cite for if she wanted to.

Just received confirmation from an official with MWD that the restrictions on carbureted 2-Strokes will not take effect until July of 2003.
