#1080, "Swimbait rod"

Hi there guys. I'm staying in South Africa and have a big problem getting a good swimbait rod. I'm willing to import one from the US, but i need to know what's the best rod to buy. I fish 9" Castiacs, Hudds in ROF12 and 5 and 9" optium. I see Bill Siemental in his book surgest the Lamiglas XC 807 but it only rates up to 3 1/2 ounces. And the castiacs are 5 oz. Please help!!

Hello, my name is Kobus... and I'm also a Bassoholic!

Okuma GS-C-761H is the perfect rod for those baits. See Rob's reviews on the different rods and see what is said about those rods.

Ditto on what SWMB8R said. The Okuma is perfect for the job and has a lifetime warrenty. You can order it online at tackle warehouse through calfishing.com

Hi Kobus

I know this page will help you:
http://www.bigbass.0catch.com/id9.htm

Possible factory-built rods suitable for Swimbaiting are listed there ... If you can't get them in SA, order from www.tacklewarehouse.com!

I am also from South Africa and built a Swimbait-specific rod from a Calstar GF800L using the "acid wrap" or "Robert's wrap" (revolving guide style). I also know where you can get Calstar blanks in SA (and rodbuilding components) if you want to build your own rod ...

You can e-mail me at bigbass@fastmail.fm or phone on 082-903-8251 or
(033) 341-3375.

I guess we are both looking for the next SA record Bass!! :7

Best regards,
Jacques
