28676, Finally got a chance to try my new boat!
Posted by Tm Customs, Fri Jun-10-05 06:42 PM
Hey guy's first time I had a chance to take out my new kick boat today, and I have to say that it is 100x better than a float tube! I can acculy get a decent hook set too! Hopefully you guys will see me at the torney in the delta soon! I have some pic I will post later. I also made a rod holder that runs along the pontoons, havent seen anything like it before but it works good.

I went from using a float tube for years to a kickboat. I don't know why I didn't buy one sooner. They're awesome for fishing!

What did you use to make the rod holder? I'd like to do something like that on my boat. There are some velcro rod holders at Fisherman's warehouse that I might try to rig up. I worry about trees and shrubs thrashing my rods with the vertical setup. Plus, a horizontal mount will work well for rivers with overhanging trees. My boat is 10'6" so the pontoons will protect the pole in case I bump into anything. :7

Here is how I made my rod rack a vertical one wont work for me since I need to get under low overhangs and bridges.

10" pices of pvc cut a 1" slot out of them and attach 2 together and mount them at an upward angle add pipe insulator to protect your rods and use rod wraps for extra saftey on your rods! You will need to cut small slots in the back of the pvc and weave it in and out to attach the holders to your boat w/ nylon strapping.

I can tell you guys this rack works great gonna have to order some new wraps from TW to finish it but I am happy w/ it alredy.

Here are some pics http://www.calfishing.com/gallery/album08

Here are a few nice bass I got first time out in my new boat!

Hey, you're wearing a Bad Brains shirt in those pics. I saw them play (with Social Unrest and The Afflicted on the same bill) at the Farm in San Francisco way back in 1985. There were lotsa fights and skinhead violence at that show.

Just an old guy recalling the punk/hardcore scene of the 1980s...

I see how you did it. The pipe insulation is a great idea! I think I will try to mount the rods on the inner side of the pontoon (or on the top side if they don't fit on the inside)for added protection. Thanks for the directions.
